MEDINA : THE HISTORIC, VIBRANT HEART
Dive into the soul of Marrakech
The Medina is the very essence of Marrakech. A UNESCO World Heritage site, it embodies traditional Marrakech with its souks, mosques, hidden riads, and ancient landmarks. Entering it feels like stepping into a living labyrinth, where every alleyway tells a story.

MUST-SEES OF THE MEDINA :
📍 Jemaa el Fna Square:
📍 Koutoubia Mosque:
📍 The Souks:
📍 Madrasa Ben Youssef:
📍 Bahia Palace:
📍 El Badi Palace:
📍 The Secret Garden:
📍 The Saadian Tombs:
PRACTICAL INFO – THE MEDINA
• WHAT KIND OF EXPERIENCE TO EXPECT?
The Medina is Marrakech in all its authentic glory — an absolute must for every type of traveler, whether you’re with family, friends, a partner, or even solo! With its narrow alleyways, colorful souks, hidden palaces, and heady spice aromas, the Médina is a true sensory journey.
While exploring, don’t hesitate to peek behind the arched doors lining the streets and venture into narrow paths — in Marrakech, getting lost is part of the adventure. And trust us, you will get lost!
• GETTING AROUND THE MEDINA:
The key to navigating the Médina? A decent sense of direction… and your walking shoes! Everything here is done on foot. The streets are far too narrow for cars or taxis (though mopeds still whiz through!), making the experience both magical and chaotic.
Taxis will drop you at the large gates known as “Bab” (there are 19 surrounding the Médina). From there, it’s up to you. Having an offline map or mobile data is highly recommended unless you fancy wandering in circles. The Médina is a labyrinth — but with a little curiosity (and a few landmarks), it becomes your playground.
• STAYING IN THE MÉDINA:
This is where you’ll find most of Marrakech’s traditional riads — charming guesthouses usually centered around a peaceful courtyard. Rooms are often unique, staircases can be narrow, and peace and quiet depend on your neighbors… but the atmosphere is unmatched.
⚠️ Be warned: reaching your riad can feel like a mini adventure, especially upon arrival. Without a transfer, guide, or porter, you may find yourself dragging your suitcase through busy souks. It’s an authentic experience — just not the most relaxing one after a flight!
👛 HOW MUCH FOR A NIGHT IN A RIAD?
Up to €25/night: Budget-friendly riads
Between €25 and €60/night: Mid-range to slightly upscale
Over €100/night: High-end luxury
A MUST-TRY EXPERIENCE IN THE MÉDINA
📌 As soon as the sun goes down, Jemaa el-Fna square turns into a giant open-air restaurant where dozens of food stalls serve up soups, salads, couscous, tagines, grilled meats… all freshly prepared in front of you.
Prices may not always be cheaper than nearby restaurants, but the vibrant atmosphere and cheerful chaos are absolutely worth it.
GUELIZ : MODERN MARRAKECH
A European Touch in the Heart of Marrakech
Known as the “new” city, Guéliz was developed outside the walls of the Medina, primarily during the French Protectorate. This area stretches along Mohammed V Avenue and connects the Koutoubia with the center of Guéliz. Grand hotels, modern shops, cafés, and nightclubs cluster here, leaving you spoiled for choice!

It’s the ideal area for travelers looking for a vibrant, urban vibe with a more Western feel. Perfect for those who want a mix of culture and comfort — or a stay focused on shopping, food, and chill vibes. During the day, it’s great for wandering around, and by night, restaurants, rooftops, and cozy bars come alive.
• GETTING AROUND IN GUÉLIZ:
Good news: cars, taxis, buses, bikes, and pedestrians all move around freely here. The neighborhood is fairly compact and easily accessible, especially via the main artery — Avenue Mohammed V.

• WHERE TO STAY IN GUÉLIZ:
Guéliz offers a wide range of hotels, apartment-style stays, and modern residences. Riads are rare here — instead, you’ll find contemporary comfort: elevators, air conditioning, and even rooftop pools in some places.
It’s a great area for practical and accessible stays, perfect for families, business travelers, or anyone who prefers modern amenities over traditional charm.
👛 NIGHTLY RATES IN GUÉLIZ & MODERN DISTRICTS

AGDAL : SHOPPING & RELAXATION AREA
The up-and-coming urban escape.
Located in the south along Boulevard Mohammed VI, Agdal is characterized by large-scale hotel projects and golf complexes. This ever-evolving district, fueled by ambitious developments, is set to witness the emergence of expansive shopping centers and new hotel establishments in the coming years. Agdal presents itself as a commercial zone—ideal for those seeking a modern experience, less rooted in traditional authenticity.

Agdal is the part of Marrakech that’s on the move – modern, expanding, but without the overwhelming tourist crowds. It’s a great choice for families or travelers looking for a quieter vibe while still staying connected to the city.
• GETTING AROUND AGDAL:
The district is well laid out: wide avenues, smooth traffic, and easy access to taxis and buses. It’s also a convenient starting point if you’re planning day trips outside the city, such as to the Ourika Valley or the Atlas Mountains.
📌 Good to know: Agdal is just 10–15 minutes by car from the Medina, and close to both the train station and the airport.
• WHERE TO STAY IN AGDAL:
Agdal mainly offers modern residences, aparthotels, and a few hotels with pools—often at more affordable rates than in Hivernage.
Expect comfort and convenience, with useful amenities like parking, kitchens, and elevators. This area is especially practical for families or longer stays.
⚠️ Some accommodations are on the outskirts—be sure to check the distance to shops and main roads before booking.
• EXPERIENCE TO TRY IN AGDAL:
📌 Mohammed VI Avenue, which runs through Agdal, leads directly to the scenic Ourika Valley. But before you even leave Marrakech, the road itself is lined with local gems: pottery workshops, woodworkers, nurseries, and artisan stalls.
It’s the perfect place to pick up handmade items, plants, or home décor—often at lower prices and without the intense bargaining of the souks. A calm, authentic alternative to shopping in the Medina.
PALMERAIE : NATURAL GETAWAY ON THE CITY'S EDGE
Where nature meets luxury
To the northeast of the city lies the Palmeraie, a legendary district known for its lavish villas and poolside hotels. Often dubbed the “Marrakchi Hollywood,” it’s the holiday retreat of choice for many Moroccan and international celebrities. This prestigious area evokes luxury and serenity—at least within its private estates. Beyond the postcard image, however, the original 13,000-hectare palm grove struggles to survive. The ancient irrigation system has vanished, and many palm trees now suffer from neglect… though not the ones flourishing in hotel gardens and private resorts.

WHAT TO DO - WHAT TO SEE IN PALMERAIE ?
📍 The Palmeraie Museum:
📍 The Mohammed VI Museum for the Civilization of Water in Morocco
📍 Golf Courses
📍 Tour Operators
PRACTICAL INFO ABOUT THE PALMERAIE
• WHAT KIND OF EXPERIENCE TO EXPECT?
The Palmeraie is all about wide open spaces and luxury hotels nestled among palm trees. It’s a peaceful, exotic escape—perfect for relaxing far from the city’s hustle and bustle.
Whether you’re planning a romantic getaway, a serene retreat, or a nature-focused weekend, this is your spot. Some family-friendly resorts also offer pools, gardens, and on-site activities.
• GETTING AROUND THE PALMERAIE:
This district is vast—very vast. Getting around without a car or taxi can be tricky. Luckily, many accommodations offer shuttle services to the city center or the Medina.
📌 Planning to stay here? Make sure you have your own transport or that your hotel offers regular shuttle service!
• WHERE TO STAY IN THE PALMERAIE:
Here, you’ll find some of Marrakech’s most luxurious addresses: 5-star resorts, private villas, and riads hidden in lush gardens.
The setting is idyllic, and most places offer high-end services… with prices to match.
• THE EXPERIENCE TO TRY IN THE PALMERAIE:
📌 A walk through the palm groves is the Palmeraie’s signature experience. Quad or camel rides are popular, but we recommend more eco-friendly and animal-friendly options: a stroll, a bike ride, or even horseback riding (just avoid the midday heat in summer!).
These gentler options allow you to truly enjoy the beauty and serenity of the area—without compromising what makes it special.
